The CNC fines the maritime transport companies operating in the Balearic Islands for participating in a cartel

The National Competition Commission has imposed fines totalling more than 54 million euros on the companies Trasmediterránea, Balearia, Isleña Marítima de Contenedores, Sercomisa and Mediterránea Pitiusa for having participated in a cartel on the maritime passenger transport lines for cargo and passengers that connects the Spanish mainland with the Balearic Islands and the Balearic Islands with one another

In its Resolution of 23 February 2012, the CNC Council took the view that there was proof that between 2001 and 2010 the companies Balearia Eurolíneas Marítimas, S.A., Compañía Trasmediterránea, S.A. and Isleña Marítima de Contenedores, S.A. had participated in a cartel to fix prices and other terms of trading or service, to limit or control production and share out the market on the maritime transport lines for cargo and passengers between the Spanish mainland and the Balearic Islands, including the lines between Menorca and Mallorca, and between Ibiza and Mallorca.
